Spirit Parents
Spirit Parents are the cheerleaders for our Marching Greyhounds! Each section in the band and guard has a spirit team that consists of several parent volunteers and a Lead Spirit Parent. The Spirit Teams hang locker signs and section signs in the band hall. They make and distribute spirit bags on competition days and help coordinate a few section meals throughout the season. Traditionally, Spirit Teams hand out a small gift or keepsake for each student at the season end banquet in November. Even if you can’t devote time to being a Spirit Parent, you can provide monetary donations for food and supplies.
If you are interested in devoting your time to some or all spirit activities, please sign up to be a spirit parent at the Volunteer Fair or watch for signup information in the weekly announcements. If you have any questions, please contact the Head Spirit Parent. (His/her contact information can be found in the weekly announcements.) All Spirit Parents who come in contact with students must pass the CCS background check. To complete the background check, click here Background Check and select Volunteer @ CCS.
Here are some of the items Spirit Parents do throughout the season:
Hang locker signs: a locker sign is a laminated sign that contains the student’s name, instrument, graduation year or class (ie senior, 2029). Sometimes it will have a photo of the student and/or their entire section.
Fill spirit items: A spirit item is a bag with a healthy snack and drink, and a trinket or memento. Each Marching Greyhound receives a spirit item prior to boarding their bus on competition days.
Hold section breakfasts: Each section holds a breakfast before the CarmelFest (July 4th) parade and the morning of ISSMA state finals. The breakfasts are held at a band parents home or restaurant and breakfast items are either donated by other section parents or purchased by the student (restaurant).
Each section has their own, unique traditions that will require additional spirit parent involvement during the season.
